Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra Conductor: Katajan there a reflection here of the wider conflict? The sound bears the hallmarks of those early 80s Deutsche Gramophon recordings; maybe a little too digital for some, but really quite vivid and detailed.
I think Karajan's recording is the finest, but Karajan is basically competing with himself in this music. Also sprach Zarathustra; Don Juan "Please retry".

Karajan certainly embraces the human and the superhuman in this luscious, grandiose tapestry of sound. The result is a Zarathustra that shorn of almost all sensationalism and, at times, sounds rather boring--something '74 never was.
